Five dedicated members of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 66, a community-oriented organization based in north Orange County, generously volunteered their time and energy to support Mary’s Kitchen in its mission to feed the needy. The group arrived early on August 17, eager to contribute to the important cause of ensuring that vulnerable individuals in the community receive much-needed assistance.

Mary’s Kitchen, a well-known local charity in Orange County since 1984, has been a lifeline for many, providing hot meals and essential resources to those facing hardships. The organization relies heavily on volunteers, and Flotilla 66 members were more than willing to lend a hand.

The team, consisting of Flotilla Commander Dave Padilla; staff officers Matthew Airey, and Anne Evans; and flotilla members Ray Evans, David Cometa and his wife Elizabeth, were tasked with sorting through donations in the bustling food pantry. From canned goods to fresh produce, the volunteers meticulously organized the items to ensure they would be distributed efficiently to those in need. The work was physically demanding, but the sense of camaraderie and shared purpose kept spirits high.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to know that our efforts today will make a tangible difference in someone’s life. We’re proud to be part of a community that cares,” Airey said.

Throughout the day, the Flotilla 66 members worked alongside other volunteers, creating a collaborative and supportive environment. Together, they sorted through hundreds of pounds of food, preparing it for distribution to local families and individuals who rely on Mary’s Kitchen for their daily meals.

As the day came to an end, the members of Flotilla 66 left with a sense of accomplishment, knowing that their time and effort had helped make a positive impact. Their volunteer work at Mary’s Kitchen is a testament to the power of community involvement and the difference that can be made when people come together for a common cause.

Flotilla 66 remains committed to serving their community, and this experience at Mary’s Kitchen has only strengthened their resolve to continue making a difference, one act of kindness at a time.
