Sight Impairment Assistance:

Users who are color blind or lack visual acuity can adjust their web browsers to shift colors into their personal visual color gamut or visual range (such as extremely large letters).

Deuteranopia (green and yellow blindness), tritanopia (inability to see blue) and similar conditions can be accommodated through browser extensions such as Colorblindly, or others. This web site has been tested for many variations of colorblindness, and should be usable as-is by most people.

In some cases web browsers can be modified to mitigate color blindness. For example, Google Chrome has the Color Enhancer plugin. Safari has built-in enhancement tools.

As a last resort, web pages can be rendered in monochrome (black & white grayscale). In web browser, look for such settings as “Grayscale the Web” or “Monochrome Mode.”

Similarly, users with visual acuity issues can simply enlarge the web page with a few keystrokes, such as Control+ or (on Macs) Command + as many times as needed.

Reporting Errors and Corrections:

It is our policy to correct factual errors that are brought to our attention.

If you suspect that an article contains erroneous information, contact the person who wrote or posted it. Your report must have a link to the article, a summary of the erroneous information and the correct information. It would be helpful to indicate an authoritative source of the correct information.

If the person who posted the article does not respond, contact Division 6’s staff officer for publications (SO-PB), who is listed here.

Advice for Division 6 FCs and FSO-PBs:

This site uses standard WordPress to disseminate news about the Division 6 and its flotillas. For general help using WordPress, see its official help pages.

These instructions and your logon information (previously emailed to you) should be enough to get you started. If in doubt, send an email to the Division 6 SO-PB for instructions and a new password. Never share your password with anyone.

  • Log in. The first time you log in, you will be introduced to the Block Editor; everything you create — such as a paragraph — will be in a block, but you usually won’t see the outline of the block.
  • On the left WordPress menu, choose Posts —> Add A New Post.
  • Replace the Add title label with a headline of your choosing. Give your post a pithy headline!
  • Paste or type your article. You can make words bold or italic if you like, or insert photos or downloadable documents (PDF format is strongly recommended).
  • In the Subject menu at right, check the box next to your Flotilla number. If your post is of interest to the whole division, check that box too, or check other specific flotillas that would be interested.
  • You can choose Save Draft whenever you wish. If you log out, your post will still be there when you next log in.
  • In the “Custom Fields” at the bottom, enter “Author” as the name and the name of the author of the article as the value, then click on Update.
  • Happy with everything? Click publish and then Submit for Review, and you are done.
  • The Division 6 SO-PB will be alerted by e-mail and will either approve the posting or recommend edits. (Usually missing stuff, like street addresses or starting times. Things like that. Also, I may change your headline if I think rewording will get it more attention.)

What if I see “Type / to choose a block”?

This is normal, and it indicates the place where you can next insert text, an image, a file or other special content.

Or you can just not type “/”. Click on the message to enter text, or ignore it and it will go away.

My post looks awful What can I do?

Contact the SO-PB for guidance or some hands-on editing.

WordPress allows comments. Why don’t we?

This site is intended to disseminate articles about the Auxiliary; it is not a social media site, like Facebook. By not collecting reader comments or requiring personal information, we avoid gathering and managing personally identifiable data (PID); this allows us to avoid state, federal and international privacy laws regarding PID.
